Insect, Vector, and Rodent Control

The Elkhart County Health Department Vector Control Program provides a seasonal surveillance program to monitor the population and types of mosquitoes in the county each year.

A supervisor, one staff member (part time) and two to four seasonal employees monitor the population from May until late September.

The staff routinely monitors two to three hundred sites each summer and responds to citizen complaints. We do treat public sites known to harbor species of mosquitoes capable of transmitting disease.

The mosquito diseases of concern in the county are Eastern Equine Encephalitis and West Nile Virus.

For more information about West Nile Virus visit the Indiana State Department of Health Website.
